I have to share a funny, but effective, parenting tip. My 2 oldest are boy and girl. And they haven't had the greatest relationship through the years...they say this birth order makes them both have first born tendencies. Which equates into bossiness for my boy and stubborness for my girl. So when they were little and didn't get along, I would make them hold hands and play together for awhile. Worked wonders.
But now they are teens and yesterday a doozy of a fight broke out between them that had been brewing for a while. Stumped on how to reconnect them, I remembered my old technique and decided to update it. What I did was this...my daughter wanted to go ride her horse and was looking for someone to go with...viola! I said her brother could go and told him the same. Of course, they both balked loudly. The alternative, I stated, was to hold hands all the next day. Into the sunset they rode.hahaha. And came back laughing and talking (and listening!) much kinder to each other. I guess some one on one time never hurts. (Glad they didn't take me up on the hand holding, much harder to enforce!).
